Robert Takes received his medical degree from the Free University of Amsterdam. This was followed by a clinical and research period in the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek/Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam. He completed the residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in 2000 at the Leiden University Medical Center in which year he also finished his PhD thesis on regional metastasis in head and neck cancer. In 2001 he moved to Nijmegen and started his 2-year fellowship in head and neck surgery in the Radboud University Medical Center. Since 2009 he leads the multidisciplinary head and neck oncology center of this hospital. His main research interests are in the field of lymph node metastasis, translational research and quality of care.
