Emilie Dronkers MD PhD Emilie Dronkers, MD, MPH, PhD, is a consultant ENT surgeon and laryngologist at the Leiden
University Medical Center (LUMC) in the Netherlands. She manages the full spectrum of laryngeal
disorders with specialist interest in airway stenosis, complex dysphagia and laryngeal reinnervation
procedures. After her residency at Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam in 2020, she was
first to complete the 2 year UEMS European Laryngology Fellowship Program in 2023 in Nijmegen
(Radboud University Medical Center, the Netherlands) and London (Charing Cross Hospital London,
UK). She has a PhD in head and neck oncology, and holds a master degree in clinical epidemiology.
From 2022-2024 she worked as senior clinical fellow at the National Center for Airway
Reconstruction, Imperial College Healthcare in London. Emilie has authored over 40 peer-reviewed
international articles and chapters of textbooks. She works closely together with many researchers in
Europe and the USA on the topics of laryngotracheal stenosis and complex dysphagia and supervises
several PhD students in this field. She is the coordinator of the LUMC Expert Center for Laryngology.
Emilie has a strong motivation to improve functional problems and quality of life of patients, focusing
on innovative surgical procedures and the balance between voice, swallowing and breathing in a
shared-decision making process. She is very passionate about creating visionary strategies and
practical yet scientifically based solutions to improve patient-centered care.
